The USO and Armed Forces Entertainment joined forces with a group of professional golfers last week to provide service members in the Persian Gulf region the opportunity to meet with and learn golf tips from some of the best golfers in the world.

PGA Tour players participating in Operation Links included: Corey Pavin, Jerry Kelly, Donnie Hammond, Howard Twitty, and Titleist staff player Frank Lickliter II. They were also joined by National Long Drive Champions Art Sellinger and Brian Pavlet.

While all of these techniques and tricks can definitely help you to improve your tennis swing, the most important element to improvement is practice, practice and more practice.

Hundreds of ordinary people report inaccuracies in the press each year, but very few of these complaints are upheld. The Press Complaints Commission (PCC) exists to deal with these issues but a survey by the MediaWise organisation revealed 64% of those asked were unhappy with their response. The Labour MP for The Wrekin, Peter Bradley, wants to ensure that people are not misrepresented in the press and that journalistic standards are improved. But I do agree with James. When a paper finally accepts a mistake has been made the apology tends to be no more than a few lines at the bottom of a page. Editors would thinks twice if they knew any subsequent apology had to be equal in typeface, space taken etc to the original story.

But as far as regulation goes there are simply two approaches: a proactive stance in placing restrictions on the freedom of the press or a reactive approach with remedies for victims when the press unfairly encroach into realms that should not concern them. The first risks censorship which cannot be supported rationally and is not viewed favourably in Strasbourg. The second may cause initial discomfort for the people scrutinised by the press but it is better than the state dictating what we can and cannot read.

Then the Speaker would have the powers to force an MP or minister to give a full response to questions raised. I think this bill will have a minor positive effect on the public, but is potentially very harmful as is any government bill which regulates press. But a bill for Parliament will cause a dramatic change in the way our government acts.

As someone who has a technical education I often see technical and scientific issues deliberately misunderstood for the purpose of sensationalism. I would support a law that compels the media to explain were information comes from, links to it and give a right of reply to all parties directly involved. These replies should be included as part of the article and there should be restrictions on how the media can edit them. I would oppose a law that in any way prevented the media from bringing something to our attention or infringed on the right of free speech. The media is a very powerful instrument, without it we would be blind in many ways. But there should be laws to prevent that power from being abused.

I received a reply stating that it was okay because it was expressed as the personal opinion of the author and so allowed under their guidelines. I went through their guidelines very carefully and could find nothing about an exemption for personal opinion. They just seem to make up the rules as they go along. Newspapers must have freedom of speech, but not the freedom to print complete lies - it takes forever for the PCC to investigate complaints and any apologies published are invariably published months later and buried deep inside the paper in some hidden corner. Thats no deterrent - its a tiny price to pay compared to the millions the paper can make printing sensationalist lies which can destroy peoples lives. Self-regulation doesnt work - the papers have proven this over and over again.

There is a higher degree of propaganda of late and I feel that self monitoring is not working. People believe that newspapers and the BBC are authoritative and highly reliable. But is this true and what happens if this is not the case? Can an individual bring an action against a newspaper if the individual believes that a paper is misrepresenting their position? And would there be legal aid for such actions or limits to counterclaims, assuming that the defendant has greater access to legal assistance than the claimant? [In following Steffi Graf's tennis career,
I discovered the ultimate meaning of life
and what it takes to live it.]

Time and again, all of us put our legs on life's banana peels fall and most of us pick ourselves up rather than say "O, it's impossible, I better stop stepping out". The itch to quit confronts us all the time precisely because there is no level playing field in either God's universe or Darwin's world. During my years at Chandigarh I was faced with situations that seemed unbearable or overwhelming, that I thought of throwing it all up and retiring to a life of peace and quiet but something in me kept saying that it was not the right thing to do. Perhaps, it was a benign instinct; or an uncanny knack to postpone decisions in the hope that things get sorted out if we don't meddle with them. To be charitable to myself, I think it was my belief in life as something to live for despite the banana peels and AK-47s.

Poet Bhartrihar puts humans in three categories in the matter of attitude towards life. He says :
Prarabhyate na khalu vignamayena neechaih
Paramya vignavihata viramanti madhyaah
Vignaih punah punarapi pratihanyamanaah
Prarabhya cha-uttamajana na parityajanti

(Base persons do not undertake any task apprehending fear of obstacles;
the mediocre persons start working but give up in the face of obstacles. People of excellence, once they start any job, do not quit whatever the impediments and hazards.)

One person who, in my opinion, belonged to the topmost of "uttamajana" (people of excellence) is Steffi Graf. This queen of the tennis court recently opted for "life after tennis" and for me, the game would never be the same again. The only time I ever felt totally television-friendly was when Steffi was on court. Never mind whether she lost or won; Steffi Graf brought to the game of tennis a spiritual dimension that set her apart from such great players as Maureen Connolly, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert and Margaret Court, to name but a few. Outstanding players those were, each invincible at her best, but Steffi Graf gave to the game a mystic splendour that went beyond the game and the prizes and the money that came with winning. There was class, character, artistry, majesty, ruthless efficiency, devestating force and consistency. And, no one in the history of the game faced such adversity, trauma and mental and physical agony as she did in her 17-year stint as a tennis player. Steffi Graf packed epochs and eternity into those rectangle separated by a net. It was a lesson in living life. I recall the memorable song of Frank Sinatra titled "That's Life" :
That's life'
That's what people say
You are riding high in April
Shot down in May
But I know I am gonna change that
When I am back on top in June

Steffi Graf was shot down in many a May and as often as not, she was on top again in June. Else, she could not have been World number one for a staggering 377 weeks - that's seven years and a little more. And yet, without any sense of false modesty, she could say that Martina Navratilova was the greatest woman player of all times. Grace both in triumph and adversity conferred well-deserved divinity on her. Those seven years and 17 weeks at the top were interspersed with crippling injuries, domestic tragedies, legal problems and a lot else. Back to the Sinatra song......

I pick myself up and get back in the race

And she gave her evrything to the game. The quest for perfection never left her whether she was practising or playing. While others threw tantrums during play and sulked, Steffi could be angry only with herself, when she fell below the level of perfection set for herself. Twice in the past eight years she thought of quitting, once after losing to Sabatini - "I thought seriously about giving up tennis...my nerve had gone. I had become weak" - and four years ago. But....
That's life, I can't deny it
I thought of quitting
But my heart just won't buy it.
If I didn't think it was worth a try
I'd roll myself up in a big ball and die.

It is given to very few people to stay focussed when one is chased by adversity that comes in the form of an errant father, greedy taxmen and malevolent media. It was amidst these that Steffi could produce that lightening-like-forehand flashing across the court. Toughness is no matter of physical strength but of character. That tame defeat at the hands of Llindsay Davenport was a moment of supreme realisation for this evolved soul. "At times I think about life after tennis.....you have dreams, ideas at times. To get a clear vision, I'd really need to stop and have some time for myself".

Another example is Switzerland, which does not plant cocoa but has the best chocolate in the world. In its little territory they raise animals and plant the soil during 4 months per year. Not enough, they produce dairy products of the best quality! It is a small country that transmits an image of security, order labor, which made it the world's strongest, safest place.

Executives from rich countries who communicate with their counterparts in poor countries show that there is no significant intellectual difference.

Race or skin color are also not important: immigrants labeled lazy in their countries of origin are the productive power in rich European countries.

What is the difference then? The difference is the attitude of the people, framed along the years by the education the culture flawed tradition.

On analyzing the behavior of the people in rich developed countries, we find that the great majority follow the following principles in their lives:

1. Ethics, as a basic principle.
2. Integrity.
3. Responsibility.
4. Respect to the laws rules.
5. Respect to the rights of other citizens.
6. Work loving.
7. Strive for savings investment.
8. Will of super action.
9. Punctuality.
10. and of course...Discipline

In poor countries, only a minority follow these basic principles in their daily life.

The Philippines is not poor because we lack natural resources or because nature was cruel to us. In fact, we are supposedly rich in natural resources.

We are poor because we lack the correct attitude. We lack the will to comply with and teach these functional principles of rich developed societies.

If you do not forward this message nothing will happen to you. Your pet will not die, you will not be fired, you will not have bad luck for seven years, and also, you will not get sick or go hungry.

Different from a typical restaurant, one doesn't get the chance to warm up the seat for long before making another trip to get more food [no matter what, you've just gotta leave the seat at least once].
Stalls are located at all areas in the restaurant. Seats are self selected. There are no waiters/waitresses to usher to a specific seat. And seats at one side are totally different from those at the other end. Very unique layout.
The array of food are entirely Japanese cuisine as its name suggests. We had a table full of rosti with curry, seafood ramen, assorted mushroom and veg soup, prawns, and omelette seafood rice with chicken chop. In addition, we also had ham and cheese omelette, and cookies cream ice-cream waffle. I love the latter two! Lip smacking good!
Each of us spent an average of $15 or so. Quite reasonable considering the amount of food we had. And what was more important was the catching up and non-stop teasings! Another thing good about this restaurant is it doesn't chase customers out once they finish their food. We sat in till we decided to go for a movie at 4pm [no earlier plans made on that].

Counting cards in this case meant -1 for cards (10, J, Q, K), 0 for cards (2-9), +1 for Ace [If i didn't remember wrongly]. The desire to earn that $300,000 instead of trying to rely on the Scholarship, took him to Las Vegas. There, he trumped in Blackjack with the help of his team.
His life changed since then. He found the thrill and earned big through this job. He neglected his friends and 209 competition [an IT competition]. Now, earning $300,000 wasn't enough. He yearned for more. That's when his emotions ruled over his head. No longer counting cards but gambling as they put it.

Studs, Caulks or Calks are metal devices that are screwed or driven into the bottom of your horses shoes. By protruding from the bottom of the shoe, they can help to provide traction over muddy or deep footing, such as sand, and help your horse jump more confidently.
Before using studs, holes are tapped, or drilled, into both heels, and sometimes the toes, of the horses shoe. Obviously the size of the hole must accommodate the stud and generally in the US, farriers will tap a hole that supports a 3/8 diameter stud. Therefore, unless you have a special requirement for a smaller hole, such as a pony with very small feet, you should try to stick with 3/8 studs.
The first time you ride your horse with studs you should fit him with some small road studs and let him walk around unmounted for a while to get used to the new feeling (this does not mean turn him out in a field with studs in - horses should never be turned out in studs!)
Here are some simple rules for using studs. These relate to screw-in studs rather than drive-in studs because screw-in studs are by far the most commonly used types.

? NEVER turn your horse out with studs.
? NEVER leave your horse unattended in a stall with studs.
? NEVER trailer your horse with studs.
? NEVER use studs if your horse is lame.
? NEVER put yourself in a position where a horse with studs in can step on you. It is very easy to break a toe this way, even in riding boots.
Your Stud Toolkit
Ahead of time, you should assemble the following items:
? A selection of studs. Remember that depending on the footing, you might not use the same studs on the inside and outside of your horses shoes, or you could use different studs on the front than the back shoes (there is more on this subject at our website www.studsandstuff.com http://www.studsandstuff.com ).
? A horseshoe nail or some type of flat but pointed pick to remove stud plugs. Screwdrivers are generally not suitable as they tend to be too fat to fit between the plug and the shoe.
? A stud hole cleaner. This is used to remove any debris from the stud hole. Some people use the horseshow nail for this, but there are many specially-designed tools that will work faster.
? A tap of some type. This is used to clean and sharpen the edges of the threads your farrier drilled into the stud holes. There are many types on the market. The traditional type is a Tee Tap or T-Tap, so named because it is the shape of the letter T . Recently round Safety Taps have become available on the market. These are safer because if your horse steps down on a Tee Tap it can cause an injury whereas a Safety Tap is less likely to cause a problem because it is flat and shaped like a hoof. There are some self-tapping studs starting to come onto the market that should remove the need for a separate Tap, however it is still a good idea to keep a Tap on hand.
? A wrench. This is used to tighten and then remove the studs. You can use a regular adjustable wrench found in most toolkits, although over time the wrench may wear the edges of your studs, making them difficult to use. There are also a number of special wrenches made specifically for horse studs. Even if you use a purpose-made wrench, it is probably not a bad idea to have an adjustable one too.
? A box to keep everything in one place! Studs have a notorious homing instinct and will disappear at the smallest opportunity. If you dont capture them in a box, you will never find them again next time you need them.
? Rags or a small sponge. For removing oil or grease from your studs (assuming you oiled and stored them correctly the last time you used them) Studs are definitely slippery when greasy and will jump on this opportunity as part of their escape plan!
The following items are also nice to have:
? A magnet for your arm or a magnetic dish. This is useful for keeping steel studs in one place while you work and will reduce the possibility of your studs escaping!
? Rubber or cotton plugs or blanks. Most people put plugs in their stud holes when they are not using studs. This keeps the holes clean. There are rubber and cotton plugs and also metal stud blanks. If you use cotton plugs, soak them in oil to prevent the holes rusting. Stud blanks are metal screw-in plugs. If you use these, you will also need a.
? Blank Wrench or Flat-Head Screwdriver. A Blank Wrench is an Allen Key and is inserted into the stud blank to screw the blank in and out of the stud hole. Some stud blanks are designed to be inserted and removed using a Flat Head Screwdriver instead of a Blank Wrench.
? Stud cleaner and lubricant. Your studs will last much longer if you clean and grease them after use. Many people wrap them in an oily rag for storage, or you can use a product such as WD-40. Putting Studs in
Ideally you should take a lesson from your farrier or trainer before attempting to put studs in yourself. Make sure you and your horse practice at home, until you can put them in and take them out easily, before using them at a competition.
If your horse has plugs in his stud holes you will need to remove these first with your horseshoe nail or other implement.
HINT: It is a good idea to take the plugs out, clean the holes and replace the plugs before you leave for a competition. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to remove a plug when you only have 10 minutes until you should be warming up your horse!
Next you will need to clean out the stud hole with whatever tool you have chosen. Make sure that you remove all traces of dirt and debris. Putting studs into dirty stud holes can ruin the threads on your horses shoes.
Then (unless you are using self-tapping studs) you will need to tap the stud hole with a Safety Tap or Tee Tap. Unless you have a very quiet, experienced horse and are experienced with studs, we recommend using a Safety Tap. Basically, you will place the end of the Tap into the stud hole and screw it into the hole. Another benefit of a Safety Tap is that you cant screw the Tap in too far and potentially bruise your horses hoof, which is possible with a Tee Tap.
HINT: Self-tapping studs are a new option where the stud has a special thread that will clean the threads on your horses shoes as you insert it. Because they are new, these studs are more expensive than traditional studs, but as long as you dont lose them, they could be a great timesaving investment.
Now you can insert the studs. Begin by screwing them in by hand and finally make them nice and tight with your wrench. Be sure that you dont over-tighten them so that you cant undo them after you finish riding!
When you are finished riding, remove the studs, plug the holes and store the studs in some form of oily rag or plastic bag with a water repellent - any kind of oil, grease or WD-40 will work. Make sure you keep some rags or a sponge on hand to wipe up the grease!
Put your studs back in their box - if you dont they WILL escape!!!
